Principal Hillmann Covid Update – February 2022

February 23, 2022

Dear St. Elizabeth Community,
This afternoon the Archdiocese announced that students in Catholic Schools in Evanston, Oak Park and Chicago can go mask optional beginning Monday February 28th.

St. Elizabeth of the Trinity will fully comply with this new guidance. Please see the letter from the Archdiocese from the link below.

This is not a return to Pre-Covid operations. All other mitigation protocols will remain in place.

• We will keep all other aspects of our layered mitigations in place, such as maintaining current physical distancing guidelines, quarantines, frequent hand sanitizing, travel guidelines etc. At this time, we are loosening only one layer of our protocols, the mask requirement, to do all we can to improve the social-emotional well-being and academic environment of our students.
• Furthermore, our isolation and quarantine protocols are not changing. As such, even in a mask-optional environment, anyone – regardless of vaccination status – coming out of isolation or quarantine must wear a mask for at least five days per CDC guidance.
• Masks may be required if we see significant numbers of cases in a classroom.

I want to reiterate that the choice to take the masks off is a family decision. We will fully respect and support the decision for parents to continue to mask their children at school and we expect our students to respect everyone’s choice.

I know that this is a very polarizing issue in our community; one only has to look at recent public school board meetings and watch the news to see the damage this is doing to our communities.

The faculty and staff remain focused on in person high quality Catholic education. I am grateful that our school families continue to treat each other with dignity and respect and am confident that will continue.

We are a strong community, we always have been and we always will be and no time is that more important than now as things start to change!

I look forward to seeing some smiling faces tomorrow.

May God continue to bless St. Elizabeth of the Trinity.
Kristine Hillmann
