Click on the link below to see Pope Leo’s address to a lay Catholic group who engages in works of charity given on May 17. This message speaks to the heart of our rule as Vincentians.
Pope Leo states we live in a time of fake news, with irrational arguments and loud voices. He stresses our need for critical thinking, deeper reflection and commitment to encounter in which we listen to the poor, the treasure of our church whose viewpoint are vital in order to see the world through God’s eyes.
He urges Catholic workers groups to continue to be on the periphery to carry forward the Church’s social doctrine, and let the voice of the poor be heard.
May our parish SVDP Conference be that Catholic worker group that encounters the poor in our neighborhood, may we deeply listen to our friends in need in order to see the world in God’s eyes, and may we let the voice of the poor be heard.

The SEOTT chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society was honored to accept the very generous cash donation of $3,000 and $1,000 of Chicago Shares Coupons at the May conference meeting from Chicago Shares board member, Ron Polaniecki.
We will use this money and the coupons to continue our good works by reaching out to our homeless friends here in our parish and on the Far NWS Side of the city.
