CRS Rice Bowl – 50 Years of Helping (March 27 Update)

CRS Rice Bowl is celebrating 50 years of helping Catholic faith communities bring Lent to life and encounter God through our
global family.

Since 1975, Catholics across the United States have come together each Lent to respond to global hunger through the CRS Rice Bowl program.

In Nigeria, over 25 million people are experiencing extreme food insecurity due to climate change, poverty, and conflict.

Because of violence in their hometown, Amina and her family were forced to flee and start life over again in a new village.

Learn how Amina’s participation in a Catholic Relief Services program helped her prepare nutritious meals for her family and support other families in her community to overcome the challenges of hunger and malnutrition.

LEARNING FARM TECHNIQUES

Most people in Turkana, Kenya raise livestock, and a few are farmers.
But the hot and dry climate makes this work difficult – and climate
change is making it even harder.

Rebecca and Lotiang participated in a Catholic Relief Services program that installed a water well and taught them new
farming techniques.

They can support their family with their crops and are teaching others in their community what they learned.

How can you use your skills and knowledge to help others?

FROM FARMING TO FISHING
Raul and Rhodora were coconut farmers in their town in the Philippines,
but it took a lot of work before they made money.

They participated in a Catholic Relief Services program that helped them build
their own fishpond to raise and sell fish.

The fish provide nutritious food for their family and
more accessible income, enabling Raul and Rhodora’s granddaughters to attend school.
